Our Classes

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a non-striking combat sport which is largely contested on the ground. It encompasses elements of both Judo and Wrestling as a means to takedown or sweep one’s opponent. It applies the principles of kuzushi (off-balancing), angles, timing, pressure and control to achieve the submission of one’s opponent.  Submission can occur from joint-locks, strangles or chokes.

Gi Classes

In Gi classes the Gi kimono is worn by practitioners. In these classes the students are taught how to use the Gi to their advantage. Using it to off balance, trap, sweep or submit their opponent. BJJ concepts all remain the same whether you train Gi or NoGi, but the added element of wearing the Gi offers a very different dynamic to the session.

Most of our classes are Gi based.

NoGi Classes

NoGi BJJ, on the other hand, means to grapple without the use of the traditional uniform. Most people use rash guards and MMA shorts when training NoGi as it is non-intrusive when grappling on the mats. However, some people do train in compression tops or just a T-Shirt.

The NoGi game has had much popularity over the years with more and more practitioners now doing both variations of the sport. Which is the most enjoyable to watch or take part in simply comes down to personal preference.

Kids Classes

Childrens Classes are well structured, with a clear and definitive delivery of the fundamentals of BJJ.

A class will usually consist of a warm up, drills, technique and understanding & finish with sparring at the end of every session.

There are good routes to promotion as well as competition. Classes for children are from ages 7+years
